…and ‘Boomer’ is my name-o
Picking an official opening date for the new Quayside Park has been delayed. In late March/early April the city’s social media platforms announced the ‘ribbon cutting’ was to take place in May (see post below)…
“We need your help naming the tugboat at Quayside Park! Winner gets to face off in a ping pong match with Mayor @jonathanxcote at the ribbon cutting in May. #NewWest residents, submit your entry using #quaysidetugboat before April 15th. Good luck!”
As the QCB had received no word of an announcement setting the official opening date for our newly designed Quayside Park, we contacted Blair Fryer | Communications and Economic Development Manager for an update on the tugs new name, the much anticipated ping-pong game with Mayor J. Coté and of course when the park would be officially open. Following is his reply to our enquiry:
“An official opening date hasn’t been set as yet but we’re likely looking at late June or July. We hope to have a date confirmed in the next two weeks [ed note: today’s date is May 17th, 2018] which we will be far and wide on social media and CityPage so please do keep an eye out for that.
As for the tug, there was a naming contest that was promoted using social media, the city website and CityPage. We were really pleased with the number of submissions which were narrowed down to a list of five. A poll was launched on social media with a request for the public to choose their favourite with Tom Anstruther’s submission of “Boomer” receiving the highest number of votes.
A ping pong match with the Mayor to take place at the official opening is the tugboat naming “prize”. We’ll post photos of the official opening on social media once that event occurs.
