City seeking input for Official Community Plan

The City of New Westminster is making updates to their Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw to align with new housing initiatives and Provincial legislative changes.

The updates are focused on housing, with four housing initiatives being implemented:

•                     Transit-Oriented Development Areas;

•                     Accelerating Townhouse development;

•                     Exploring Infill housing development; and,

•                     Reducing barriers to non-profit affordable housing development.

The City needs your input! Housing is important and many changes are coming to New Westminster. They will be hosting open house events for you to learn more and discuss these initiatives with their staff. All of the events will have the same information and resources, questions for input, a kids’ booth, and light refreshments.

Stop by any time during these dates:

1.           Saturday, March 1 | 1:00-4:00 pm, Sapperton Pensioners Community Hall

2.           Wednesday, March 5 | 5:30-8:30 pm, Century House

3.           Saturday, March 8 | 1:00-4:00 pm, Qayqayt Elementary School Gym

If you can’t make any of the in-person dates, you can join their online discussion and provide input or ask staff questions about the four housing initiatives:

Thursday, March 6 | 11:30 am – 1:00 pm online, via Zoom. Click here to register.

You can also provide your input through a survey which will detail information you need to answer all of the questions, here , until Sunday, March 9th.

We recognize and respect that New Westminster is on the unceded and unsurrendered land of the Halkomelem-speaking peoples. We acknowledge that colonialism has made invisible their histories and connections to the land.
