New Train Advance Warning Beacons Installed — Thanks to Community Advocacy

The Quayside Community Board is very pleased to share that new train advance warning beacons have now been installed at key locations in the Quayside area. These beacons are designed to alert drivers when train activity is blocking key rail crossings, helping to reduce traffic congestion and allowing drivers to choose alternate routes.

This project came about following concerns raised by residents about the increasing traffic impacts of longer and more frequent trains moving through our neighbourhood. In 2024 representatives from the City Engineering Department met with the QCB to discuss potential solutions. As part of those discussions, the QCB strongly advocated for the installation of these warning systems to help improve traffic flow and reduce frustration for local drivers.

We are very pleased to see this work completed — including the addition of a new beacon at the Quayside Drive / K de K Court intersection to provide advanced warning of a blocked crossing at Begbie Street.

This is an important step forward, and we thank the City for listening and taking action. The QCB continues to advocate for additional beacons at other key locations to further support residents navigating around train blockages.
