Thank you for your email. A fixed link connecting pedestrians and all-wheel users between Queensborough and downtown New Westminster remains a long-term city priority and has been identified by Council as an important component of the City’s Waterfront Vision. As you note, in 2016 further investigation of the bridge concept was halted when it was determined that the amount required to construct was beyond the City’s capacity to fund. The Q2Q ferry service was introduced in 2018 to “bridge the gap”. In regards to whom to direct development enquiries at the City, our Development Services division normally assigns a staff member to each resident association. I understand that the QCB’s development services rep is currently unassigned due to staff turnover. In the interim, I’ve cc’d Rupinder Basi, Supervisor of Development Planning, as he is best positioned to answer any questions relating to current developments underway, or developers in general.

A Little History on the 2016 Q2Q Bridge vs Ferry issue:
Back as far as 2013, the QCB endorsed a ‘water taxi’ system between our two great communities (ACCESS INFO HERE). Opposing the water taxi concept, the City of New West forged ahead with their own proposal iin 2016 of a Q2Q Pedestrian/Cyclist bridge) citing that the turbulent waters and other factors prevented a ferry system of any type linking the communities (ACCESS INFO HERE).
