Quayside Community Board (QCB) makes annual charitable contribution despite cancellation of Boardwalk festival & sale.
This year, the sick at Royal Columbian Hospital and seniors at a New West care facility will have the Christmas they were hoping for, due in part to the generous contribution by the QCB to the Group of Five (G5) and the Lions Club of New Westminster. Both recipients are located in New Westminster but affect the lives of many throughout the entire lower mainland. Families, whose loved ones are either in hospital or in a care centre, are happier knowing their family members will have a brighter holiday season thanks to these three organizations. Representatives from the two receiving groups joined members of the QCB recently to accept a donation of one thousand dollars each ($1000.00) for their respective charities.
According to QCB President Vickie Turvey, the QCB was exceedingly pleased to make these important annual contributions on behalf of our residents. “These charities depend on donations to make a lot of good happen in our city and beyond. We all know the good work of the G5 and their campaign to buy equipment for Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and the Lions Club, who use this specific donation to purchase Christmas gifts for the seniors of Buchanan Lodge.” notes Turvey. On behalf of the QCB, Vickie also thanked Lions District Governor John Morlek for attending the presentation and his acknowledgment of the import the contribution has to his district and organization.
For the past nine years, the QCB has used partial proceeds from the popular BOARDWALK Festival & Sale to fund this annual charity contribution campaign. Since the inception of the BOARDWALK Festival & Sale, the QCB has donated over ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to several local not-for-profits as a way of expressing how one community can give back to the community at large.
Even with the cancellation of the 2016 BOARDWALK Festival & Sale due to event-overload and reduced area infrastructure, the QBC board voted unanimously to award these charities with the money they require to help make their campaign goals obtainable. “We are so thrilled that this donation will put smiles on the faces of those facing illness or seniors who would otherwise be ignored over the holiday season. Thanks to the work of these good people, Christmas will be just a little more joyous in New Westminster.” concludes Vickie.
The Quayside Community Board is devoted to: Representing Residents, Community Issues, Assisting Strata Corporations, Housing Cooperatives and Community Planning for the Quayside area.
